The present fortress was built in 1254. The castle is shaped like an irregular quadrilateral formed by ramparts reinforced by strong towers. Huge cisterns enabled it to withstand long sieges. The tour includes several Gothic and Byzantine chapels, set on the slope, notably Agía Paraskevi Church decorated with 2C frescoes. Don't miss St George's Church and Zoodóhou Pigi Church inside the castle walls, and the views from the parapet walk.
