Ioánnina
: Michelin's recommendations
Nestling in the hollow of a vast ring of mountains, on the verdant banks of a lake, Ioánnina enjoys a luxuriant setting. The capital of Epirus and a tourist base, it is also a modern, vibrant city, proud of its double role as university town and commercial centre. But there is another side to Ioánina, with a softer, Oriental feel, that lies hidden in its alleyways and bazaar, along the lakeside promenade, and within the walls of the citadel. Local specialities include eels, frogs, cheese from Dodona and a white wine from the region of Zítsa.
