According to mythology, it was here that Zeus swam ashore in the shape of a bull bearing the beautiful Europa on his back. This little fishing port is tucked away in a bay almost cut off from the sea by a rocky islet and boasts a broad sandy beach and plenty of fresh fish. However, it is better known for its caves in the parallel strata of tufa. They may originally have been used as tombs but have also served as places of worship and troglodyte dwellings. Benches, beds and recesses have been hollowed out of the stone.
