The three main stages of the history of Náxos can be seen immediately on arrival in the harbour of Hóra, its capital: the door of the Temple of Apollo, the Strongilí Portal, recalls the splendours of Ancient Greece - Hóra was particularly flourishing during the Archaic Era (7C-6C BC); the Venetian citadel which dominates the town evokes the Middle Ages, with an abrupt return to modern times with the busy commercial harbour.
