The largest island in the Cyclades remains relatively unknown despite its fine beaches, wild coastline, little valleys with fragrant trees, imposing mountains and lovely villages. Hora is known for its old citadel: atop a hill, its little streets and ramparts have barely changed since the medieval period. Naxos is worth visiting to enjoy a stroll round the harbour, see its Mitropolis museum (remains from the old city) and the mountain village of Apiranthos.
