Ía, which was the main town on the island before the earthquake in 1956, is slowly reclaiming the slopes of the crater. Even more so than Thíra, Ía is unquestionably the most beautiful village of the west coast, simultaneously offering the picturesque spectacle of the pastel-coloured troglodytic dwellings, clinging to the cliff, the nostalgic charm of the patrician villas and the very chic atmosphere of the tourist establishments.
