Pýlos
: Michelin's recommendations
Sheltered on the west by the rocky wall of Sfaktiría Island, the roadstead at Pílos is one of the finest and most secure in the whole Mediterranean. The town itself, spreading out like an amphitheatre facing the sea, was founded by the French military expedition to Morea in 1829. Before you set out to explore the southern Peloponnese, take time to wander down the steep little streets and steps leading to Three Admirals Square, where there is a monument dedicated to the victors of the Battle of Navarino Bay.
