At Pírgos Diroú you enter the most picturesque part of the Máni Peninsula, where hamlets and villages punctuate a rugged landscape of rocky scrubland, olive trees and prickly pears. On either side of the road, the towers of Nómia and Kíta stand facing each other, like two warriors on the qui vive. For almost thirty years in the 19C these two villages were at each other's throats because a young man had held a pretty neighbour too close while dancing.
