Skíathos : Michelin's recommendations
Skíathos Town (4,512 inhabitants) is the capital of the island and a cosmopolitan resort in summer. It was rebuilt in 1830 on two hills overlooking a broad and sheltered roadstead; its two harbours, one for fishing boats and one for pleasure craft, are protected by an islet (Boúrdzi) which was fortified in the Middle Ages. The shady waterfront is crowded by café terraces and fish tavernas. In town, you can visit the house of the novelist Aléxandros Papadiamántis (1851-1911) who often wrote about Skíathos in his work.
