An extension of the Pelion massif, Skiathos is covered by pines and olives. The island has countless inlets with turquoise water and a lovely lagoon surrounded by fine sand (Koukounaries beach, one of Greece’s best). The capital is charming with red-roofed whitewashed houses covering two hills. A pine-covered peninsula (Bourdzi) separates the old port from the new. Peaceful in winter, the town is swamped by tourists in summer.
