Opened in 1994, this up-to-the-minute museum has a remarkable collection of early Christian artefacts, including décor and elements from Macedonian churches and funerary art; bygone everyday life is evoked through a reconstructed interior. Note the fine icons including the Virgin and Child (1300), and the Wisdom of God (early 14C), and the famous Salonica Epitaphios, a cloth originally used in the distribution of the Eucharist.
