From Skála harbour visitors can take a boat trip (in a caique) over the waters of the caldera (volcanic basin). The gigantic nature of the scenery is very impressive. At Néa Kaméni, a 30min walk up a cinder path leads to the top of the volcano. There is a panoramic view of the vestiges of the originally round island. To the west, wisps of sulphurous smoke sometimes rise out of the last crater. At Palea Kaméni, the hot red water rising from the deep is surprising.
