Ancient Citadel : Michelin's recommendations

Originally built on the Kanóni peninsula, the ancient town of Corfu was moved in the 6C to provide protection from the invading Goths. The Byzantine town flourished inside the citadel perched atop a promontory. In the 15C the Venetians reinforced the walls, encircling the land fort and the sea fort, and dug a canal. The interior was often modified. St George's Church was built for the British garrison in 1830. The former Venetian barracks dominate the little port of Mandráki.
