A windswept deserted island, once the site of the Aegean’s greatest ancient city; this is Delos, the home of Apollo, god of beauty and light. In Antiquity, it played a leading commercial and religious role: the whole of the Greek world came through here. As well as the Temple of Apollo, don’t miss the Terrace of the Lions and the theatre district (2C BC), its houses with mosaics in lively colours. Note that the island is easily reached from Mikonos all year round but has no accommodation.
