Above the Pleistos ravine, amid the grandiose scenery of the Parnassus massif, Delphi was in ancient times a mystical place; its sanctuary of Apollo attracted hordes of pilgrims drawn by its oracle. The site is situated by a road, about 1km before the village of Arachova. The ancient ruins stand on a slope overlooked by the Phaedriades cliffs, renowned for their reddish glow. Below, the view extends over the Pleistos Valley, the “olive sea” descending to the coast.
