The royal apartments dating from the Minoan era consist, on the north side, of the King's reception room and a ''lustral bath'' for ritual purification, which is down several steps; on the south side is the Queen's quarters: one of the rooms has retained its original alabaster paving. The Queen's quarters connect through a small court and a corridor to the central court.
