The platform at the end of the peninsula was built by Napoleon's soldiers as a battery for cannons to command the entrance to the Halkiópoulos Lagoon, which is now bisected by the airport runway. From this terrace there is a view down onto Vlahérna and Pondikoníssi, little islands that seem to be floating on the water, each with its own monastery. Vlahérna (17C) is accessible on foot; from there a boat can be taken to Pondikoníssi, ''Mouse island''. According to legend, it is said to be the ship of Odysseus turned into stone by Poseidon.
