St Barbara occupies an impregnable position atop a rock with breathtakingly high walls. Fortunately for visitors, the old system of long ladders has been replaced by a steep stairway leading to two stone bridges suspended above the void, adding to the beauty of the setting. The monastery was probably built in the 14C, and was renovated in the 16C. Its domed catholicon (church) contains some well-made frescoes (1561). Climb up to the top of the nearby hill for a bird's-eye view.
