St Stephen's Convent Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

Like a fortified castle, this monastery stands on a rock pillar separated from the mountain by a chasm, which is spanned by a stone bridge. St Stephen's Convent (Ágios Stéfanos) was founded in the late 15C on the site of a 12C hermitage and is occupied by nuns. It has two churches: one from the 15C built on the basilical plan and decorated with frescoes similar to those in the Great Meteoron Monastery; the more recent is late 18C and contains a reliquary in which the head of St Charalambos is venerated. The monastery has a well-endowed museum.
