Temple of Hera Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

The Heraion (Temple of Hera) was built in about 600 BC in the Archaic Doric style. It was 50m long with 6 columns at either end and 16 along the sides. The short and stout columns replaced the original ones in order to support the Archaic capitals. Inside stood effigies of Hera and Zeus, as well as other statues including the famous Hermes by Praxiteles (on display in the Museum). A few columns have been re-erected among the remains of the imposing foundations.
