Varlaám Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

Reached by footbridge and stairs, Varlaám Monastery, perched above a ravine and overlooked by a 16C winch tower (Vrizoni), was founded in 1518 on the site of a 14C hermitage by two brothers from the wealthy Aparas family. All Saints' Church, which incorporates the original 14C chapel dedicated to the Three Hierarchs, was completed in 1544. It is decorated with remarkable frescoes. The track to the left winds round the mountain reveals a fine view over the little monastery of Roussánou.
