Cathedral
Cathedral : Michelin's recommendations
This Baroque cathedral, built between 1735 and 1754, is the work of Mayerhoffer. An atmosphere of rapturous serenity reigns throughout the pale pink and gilded stucco interior. Sacerdotal robes, liturgical objects and a bust of St Stephen (1896) weighing 50kg (48kg of silver and 2kg of gold) are on display in the archbishop's treasury. The cathedral is also home to a crypt where the archbishop who brought King Stephen I the crown offered by Pope Sylvester in tribute to his sovereignty (in 1001) is said to be buried.
