Szeged : Michelin's recommendations

Szeged is a charming, beautiful city and the sunniest place in Hungary. Formerly a centre of salt distribution, Szeged suffered a catastrophe on the night of 12 March 1879, when the Tisza flooded. Fewer than 300 houses withstood the damage and the town was entirely rebuilt to plans by the architect Lajos Lechner, who had helped remodel Budapest. Although Szeged has been unable to retain all its old buildings, it is nonetheless a pleasant place to visit with its wide squares, parks and gardens.
