Pannonhalma Abbey Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

Since its foundation in 996, Pannonhalma Abbey has majestically stood on a hilltop overlooking the plain. Its owes its birth to Géza, the first Magyar prince to be converted to Christianity. The abbey is still home to 70 monks, a secondary school and a theological institute. The visit includes a tour of the cloisters, the church and its Porta Speciosa whose columns are carved out of red marble. The library boasts 300,000 works including the oldest manuscript in Hungary: the founding deeds of the abbey of Tihany (11C).
