Day 1: Delhi – Amritsar
Transfer to Delhi railway station and board the train to Amritsar. The train journey is approximately six hours and you will travel by first-class train in a comfortable air-conditioned carriage. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, be amazed by the pomp and ceremony of the nightly flag-lowering and retreat ceremony between the Border Security Force of India and the Pakistan Rangers. Watch the troops march down the road, yelling and posturing to one another as bugles ring out and the flags are lowered. Great for photo opportunities this is one show not to be missed! Day 2: Amritsar (B)
This morning discover the cultural heart of Amritsar and the beautiful Golden Temple, aptly named with its gold roof top dome. The temple is the cultural and spiritual home of the Sikh religion and known pilgrimage destination for Sikh and non-Sikhs alike. It houses the original Sikh holy book and was built as a place of worship for men and women from all walks of life and religions. Please note that you are required to wear a head covering, remove your shoes and wash your feet before entering the temple. Next, visit the Jallianwala Bagh gardens and the memorial that commemorates the political uprising of 1919. Hear the tragic story of lives lost when Brigadier-General Dyer, the highest ranking British military officer at the time, gave orders to open fire. Your afternoon is free to explore Amritsar.
