Halebib is no more than a village nowadays, yet it was once the capital of the Hoysalas (11C-13C) who embellished what is modern-day Karnataka with some 600 temples, each of which is endowed with great sculptural detail. The Hoysaleswara Temple, with its characteristic star-shaped plan, displays magnificent virtuosity in its detail.
