Alwar
: Michelin's recommendations
Located in a splendid natural setting away from large urban centres, Alwar is spared the frenetic pace of the modern world. The fiefdom of Rajput Pratap Singh, it has preserved a royal palace built at the end of the 18C, which has been partly converted into a museum. Near the palace, admire the cenotaph of the Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh, a fine work made from red granite and white marble. Make sure you find time to visit the Sariska reserve to explore the former royal hunting grounds.
