The main attraction of this dusty town, in an isolated location amid the arid landscapes of northwest Rajasthan, is the Junagarh fortress, whose palaces are renowned for their exquisite refinement. A stroll through the old town of Bikaner is evocative of this image of Rajasthan, which is almost medieval in some respects, yet slowly swallowed by chaotic Indian-style modern development.
