Extending along the banks of a lake amid a landscape of unspoilt hills, the tranquil city of Dungarpur was founded in the 13C by the older branch of the Sisodya dynasty. This capital of an independent kingdom, which was located too far away from the main commercial routes to enjoy the same growth as Udaipur, has preserved its provincial appearance. With its Rajput fort, 18C palace (Udai Bilas) and bazaar, it has the perfect attractions to entice visitors keen to experience “traditional India”.
