Situated in the heart of the Thar desert, Jaisalmer is dominated by its 12C fort, which is surrounded by a long wall fortified with numerous bastions that have unfortunately been damaged by water seepage. The citadel, which is accessed via huge gates, is best explored at sunset when the buildings take on a delightful golden hue. The fort is home to the royal palace and seven magnificent Jain temples. Enjoy a stunning view of the lower town and surrounding desert from the ramparts.
