Nawalgarh
: Michelin's recommendations
Nawalgarh, an attractive town of 60 000 inhabitants with streets made from compacted sand, is one of the best-preserved settlements in the Shekhawati region (its foundations are made from stone not brick) and is an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area. Founded in 1737 by Nawal Singh, one of the five sons of the rao Sardul Singh, Nawalgarh was the cradle of very rich trading families such as the Goenka and Poddar. Explore its havelis, decorated with splendid wall paintings, such as the Poddar haveli and the Bhagat haveli.
