Osiyan : Michelin's recommendations
Who would believe that the village of Osiyan was a major trading and religious centre from the 8C to the 12C? Yet, some 20 temples, which were spared Muslim raids in the 12C, bear witness to its important status. Although only two are still in operation, they happen to be the most magnificent: the Hindu temple of Sachiya Mata and the Jain temple of Mahavira. The remainder, less spectacular in appearance, have not been restored, but have managed to preserve fine sculptures which evoke the town’s glorious past.
