The 400 temples in Pushkar, the holy city of Rajasthan, bear witness to the religious devotion of Hindus. Try to visit them during the arti (evening prayer) to get a measure of their unique atmosphere – the temple of Brahma, with its statue of the four-headed god, and that of Rama Vaikunth, dedicated to Vishnu, are particularly noteworthy. The sight, first thing in the morning, of the faithful who come to purify themselves on the ghat (flights of steps) along the lakeshore, is an equally impressive spectacle, as is the unique camel fair held in October and November.
