At the northern end of the lake, the picturesque village of Songan has a magnificently decorated pretty temple. Pura Ulun Dnu has superb multi-roofed meru at its threshold, at the foot of the fern covered caldeira slope. From there, on a fine day it is worth climbing to the top of the caldeira (15-20min easy walk). The view takes in Lake Batur on one side, and the east coast of Bali on the other, with Agung’s omnipresent silhouette in the background.
