The discovery of cranial bones belonging to "Java Man" in the Solo River (Surakarta) in 1891 lent credence to Darwin's theory of evolution by proving that Homo erectus had existed in Asia as well as in Africa. You can see a cast of the skull in Bandung's Geology Museum, an old-fashioned place with interesting collections of fossils, minerals and meteorites. Children will love the scale models of volcanoes, as well as the reconstructions of prehistoric animals.
