Although it hasn't erupted since 1969, the low-lying Tangkuban Perahu ("Capsized Boat") volcano is active. The smoke, bubbling pools and sulphur fumes give the impression of having reached the ends of the earth, even though the road leading to the main crater (Kawah Ratu) has made it a tourist hotspot. There is a view over the Ciater tea plantations and the volcanoes of Bandung Plain. From here you can reach two other craters on foot, Kawah Upas, and Kawah Domas, with its boiling mud lake.
