Built in 1813 by Yogyakarta's second dynasty, the Pakualaman ("pivot of the universe"), this palace faces south in a sign of obedience to Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat. Like the kraton (albeit in a much smaller format), its layout comprises a succession of courtyards dotted with pendopo. To the south, a small alun-alun leads to the principal courtyard (the only one open to visitors), where you will find the Bangsal Sewotomo, an example of typical Javanese architecture. A little European-style pavilion with a pretty wooden façade stands next to it.
