Taman Nasional Gunung Halimun (40 000ha) encompasses the largest primary equatorial forest in Java. It is a sanctuary for the extremely rare Javan gibbon, long-tailed macaque, and over 130 species of bird. This vast forested area plays an essential role in the climate and irrigation of West Java, and the highest of its many summits is Mt Halimun (1 929m). Between Nirmala Tea Plantation (in Citalahab) and the waterfalls (Cikudapaeh, Mecan – both 7m high, and Piit – 25m), the park offers all manner of sporting activities.
