In 2007 a vast new wing was added to Indonesia's oldest museum, which is home to fabulous collections from Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Don't miss the abundant Chinese ceramics, Hindu-Buddhist sculptures, including the statue, Bhairava, more than 4m high (West Sumatra), the fascinating ethnography section, early batiks from West Java, and not forgetting the "treasure": a series of silver and gold objects thought to have been buried by lava from Mt Merapi in the 10C.
