This charming little village was almost entirely rebuilt around 1860 by Lady Fetherstone, one of the owners of Ardagh House. It is said that the ruined cathedral, a small stone church, was built on the tomb of Saint Mel . He was made bishop by his uncle, St Patrick, who founded Ardagh church in the 5C.
