The Mall is the most attractive urban feature of Armagh with a long stretch of lawn, a cricket pitch and pavilion, lined with elegant terraced houses. In the 8C, as its old name, the Commons, indicates, it was used for grazing. The Mall was used for horse racing, bull baiting and cock fighting until Archbishop Robinson put a stop to all gambling activities and the land was converted to a public lawned area.
