This museum’s varied collections provide a remarkable perspective on the history of Ulster and its capital. Its Art Gallery includes works by Turner, Gainsborough, Bacon and Henry Moore. In addition to its decorative arts exhibits, there are some fine antiquities: the 14C-15C reliquary of the hand of St Patrick is a silver hand encrusted in glass and crystal decoration, while the Armada Treasure, recovered off the Irish coast, is impressive. The museum also looks at wider world cultures.
