Ormond Castle
: Michelin's recommendations
Carrick's showpiece is a 15C castle, partly in ruins, and a beautiful Elizabethan manor surrounded by a woodland park. The restored manor was built by Thomas Butler, 10th Earl of Ormond, known as Black Tom. He built the manor to receive his cousin, Queen Elizabeth, who never set foot in Ireland. The exterior has beautiful mullioned windows and gabled roofs and the interior is renowned for its ornamental plasterwork and its long gallery.
