Clonakilty Travel guide
Clonakilty : Michelin's recommendations
This large town, dating from 1598 is renowned for its black pudding, first made around 1880 by Philip Harrington. The famous water pump, also known as the wheel of fortune, was installed in 1890 through the generosity of the Earl of Shannon. The character of the town centre is enhanced by two features: an 18C Georgian square with a central garden, and the use of Gaelic on several of the renovated shop fronts.
