Sculptured in minute detail by Jerome Connor (1876-1943) from Cork, this group depicting an angel and two sailors commemorates the 1500 victims of the Lusitania, torpedoed in 1915. The work was finished by Seamus Murphy upon Connor's death. Nearby, in Pierce Square, a more modest monument commemorates the victims of the Titanic.
