A castle, now converted into a hotel, occupies this magnificent site between the river and Lough Corrib. Arthur Edward Guinness commissioned James Franklin Fuller to create the baronial style Ashford House by incorporating a French style chateau and the remains of a castle built in the 13C by the de Burghs.
