The Chamber of Commerce, built in 1813 for the traders operating in the Butter Market, is now part of the Imperial Hotel, located at the far east end of the street. Right opposite, on the corner of Pembroke Street, an entrance bears the inscription Cork Library. This is where the first main public library was founded with money from a private subscription.
