University College Cork (UCC), was founded by charter in 1845, as were two other colleges in Galway and Belfast and it now belongs to the National University. A walking tour, starting from the main gate, allows the visitor to admire the Main Quadrangle building, Boole Library, Honan Chapel, (famous for its stained-glass windows), Crawford Observatory as well as the Republican Grave Plot and Gaol.
