Manor : Michelin's recommendations

The castle which stands on a bluff on the south bank of the River Eske was almost completely destroyed by Hugh Roe O'Donnell to prevent it from falling into English hands. Its remains were incorporated into the Jacobean mansion which Sir Basil Brooke had built in the courtyard. He also ordered the construction of a gatehouse. The kitchens are located on the ground floor under the living accommodation, behind the five-gabled façade.
