Creevelea Abbey
Creevelea Abbey
: Michelin's recommendations
An avenue of evergreens beside the Bonet River, leads to the ruins of a Franciscan friary founded by Owen O'Rourke in 1508. The east and west windows and the church's western door are well-preserved. The cloisters' carved pillars (northern side) depict Saint Francis with stigmata and birds perched on a tree. In the 17C, the tower was transformed into living quarters.
